font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">That's a simple formula - Yet even today, most of us are still getting it wrong. We believe that happiness comes in a giant cardboard box or has four wheels and a supercharger. It’s not an easy lesson to learn, and most don’t learn it until they are significantly older. Happiness isn’t a shiny new piece of electronics, it’s not a swimming pool, nor a house, nor a city. Happiness is found inside of you. And in order to push the happiness outward so that it radiates into everything you do, you must feel great about yourself. There’s nothing that does that more than accomplishing a goal. What are your goals, and will you accomplish them?

I know I have my goals written down with a plan in place. The tower is too high!"

The tiny frogs began collapsing. One by one....

Except for those, who in a fresh tempo, were climbing higher and higher....

The crowd continued to yell, "It is too difficult!!! No one will make it!"

More tiny frogs got tired and gave up....

But ONE continued higher and higher and higher....

This one wouldn't give up!

At the end everyone else had given up climbing the tower Except for the one tiny frog who, after a big effort, was the only one who reached the top!

THEN all of the other tiny frogs naturally wanted to know how this one frog managed to do it?

A contestant asked the tiny frog how he had found the strength to succeed and reach the goal?

It turned out....

That the winner was DEAF!!!!

The wisdom of this story is:

Never listen to other people's tendencies to be negative or pessimistic.... because they take your most wonderful dreams and wishes away from you -- the ones you have in your heart!

Always think of the power words have.

Because everything you hear and read will affect your actions!

Therefore:

ALWAYS be....

POSITIVE!

And above all:

Be DEAF when people tell YOU that you cannot fulfill your dreams!
Initiative - Dr. John C. Maxwell

It's cliche to say that every journey begins with a single step, yet it's true. Leaders don't wait for everything to be perfect before they move forward. They don't wait for all the problems or obstacles to disappear. They don't wait until their fear subsides. Leaders take initiative.

Leaders know the secret of momentum: once you take the first step and start moving forward, everything becomes clearer and easier. If momentum gets strong enough, problems begin to take care of themselves and new opportunities arise. But the benefits of momentum only come into play once a leader takes initiative.

As leaders, why are we sometimes timid or tentative when we should be taking action? In my experience and observation, there are six root causes of our procrastination.

SIX SOURCES OF PROCRASTINATION

1. We hesitate to do chores we don't enjoy.

For me, yard work has always been draining. I don't find pleasure in it, and there's a million other things I'd rather spend my time doing. When I was first married, I would procrastinate mowing the lawn until it grew into a small jungle. I knew mowing would make my home look nice and would please my wife, but I abhorred giving it my time and attention.

2. We hesitate to do activities we aren't good at doing.

I enjoy the arts, and I am fascinated by highly creative persons. However, I'm not particularly gifted in painting, drawing, or designing. That's why I avoid decorating. I enjoy a finely manicured Christmas tree, or an exquisitely decorated room, but I simply have no talent at making things look good. As a consequence, I will put off decorating as long as possible.

3. We hesitate to do what isn't on our agendas.

Human nature tends to be set in its ways. When changing circumstances make our plans obsolete, we resist making adjustments. We stubbornly hold to our old course of action and avoid altering our behavior.

4. We hesitate to solve situations that are likely to be messy

A prime example is confrontation. It's difficult to tell someone what they don't want to hear and probably won't respond well to being told. Dreading the possible outcomes, we dawdle and delay rather than initiating confrontation.

5. We hesitate to tackle a task that is high-energy and low-return.

As leaders, we are hard wired into getting the most bang for our buck. The same holds true with our time. We want to invest it profitably. As such, I have always been hesitant to put energy into relationships with high-maintenance donors or investors who aren't substantial contributors to the organization.

6. We hesitate to step into things we don't understand.

Hence the saying, "You can't teach an old dog new tricks." My generation has had to come to grips with fast-moving technologies, and it hasn't been easy. I don't understand many features of GPS systems, iPods, or PDA's, and, as a result, I procrastinate adopting them into my life - even though I know they could be helpful to me.

VISION AND VALUES - THE ANTIDOTES TO PROCRASTINATION

Author John Kotter, says, "Most people don't lead their lives, they accept their lives. Leaders are the exception. In their mind's eye, they have a vision of exactly where they want to go. By keeping that vision in the forefront of their minds, leaders develop priorities, maintain focus, and, acquire a sense of urgency. The vision becomes the driving force behind everything a leader does.

Leaders with a vision are active rather than passive. Whereas most people follow the path of least resistance, visionary leaders refuse to settle for what's comfortable or easy. They shape their world rather than fitting into its mold.

In addition to following a vision, leaders relentlessly schedule their lives around their core values. Leaders are attuned to what they feel is important in life, and they align their activities to reflect those beliefs. Values dictate what they will do, what they will avoid, and where they will invest their most precious commodity - time.

THE POWER TO QUIT

You may have heard the saying, "Quitters never win, and winners never quit." Nothing could be further from the truth! Leaders are strategic quitters. They ruthlessly avoid activities that don't align with their vision or values. They know the power of "NO" when faced with opportunities that threaten to drift them away from their purpose.

I've quit a lot of things during my leadership journey: counseling, administrating, controlling, people-pleasing, and more. Quitting has been healthy for me because I've always quit for the right reasons.

VALID REASONS TO QUIT

You quit something you don't do well to start something you do well.

You quit something you're not passionate about to do something that fills you with passion.

You quit something that's doesn't make a difference to do something that does.

SUMMARY

To acquire more influence, taking initiative is a prerequisite. Leaders step forward when they clarify their vision and values. Knowing their purpose gives them a starting point, and a reason to act. By clearing out the clutter in their agendas, leaders recognize the power of quitting. Free from the handcuffs of over-commitment, leaders are able to choose the dreams they chase rather then drifting down the current of life's circumstances.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://workingceomoms.blogspot.com/2010/08/initiative-dr-john-c-maxwell.html' title='Initiative - Dr. John C. It's all in your "Why".

Whatever it is your looking to accomplish, your REASON for doing it is the ultimate motivator.

The problem that occurs with those who do not accomplish their goal(s), in so many cases, is that they "forgot" or stop FOCUSSING on their reason or perhaps their reason wasn't strong enough.

So how do you stay on task? How can you make it strong enough?

My advice: Develop a strong "Why". Peel back the onion to get to the core of your reason.

Here are 5 "Must Do"s" to creating a strong "Why", to help you stay on task with and to accomplish your goals. MAKE SURE YOU WRITE YOUR ANSWERS OUT. IT MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE!

1.Start with this. Ask yourself:

Why do you want to accomplish XYZ??

2.Next, expand on your why:

When I accomplish this, it will mean this .....(fill in)............. to me.

3.3rd, expand further:

When I accomplish this, it will mean this .....(fill in)............ to those I love.

4.4th, expand again:

When I accomplish this I will feel ......(include at least 5 emotions)................ .

5.5th.....SHARE it in the written form with someone.

I love to read things that are positive!

Have you thought about reading? I go through my period where I can't put a book down, and other times I don't want to pick a book up. There could be a million different reasons for either of these, but when I am reading I am more positive. Pick up a great read instead of turning on the TV. Focus on your goals in life. I have really been thinking about where I want my life to be lately. I have a really good life, but I am always striving to improve my life and take it from good, to great.

We can accomplish almost anything within out ability if we think we can! ~George Matthew Adams

Happy reading!

Be a person of influence!

It is time to have Influence!

Influence can sometimes be a hard thing to have. If you are wondering why you aren't a person of influence I want you to think about you as a person. Do you have a title attached to your name? Do you feel like you need a title attached to your name? Because I will tell you, a title can have nothing to do with being a person of influence. I know for a fact there are many people in our world that have influence but NO title. It starts from within. I work everyday on myself. Do a "CHECK UP FROM THE NECK UP" and work to be a better person. When others are attracted to your character, you then become a person of influence. When I started with myself, I become a person of influence.

In whatever you do, do it the best you can, and others will follow you.

My personal website: Tonight I took my daughter and her best friend to dinner and I observed many parents pushing their children off to the field out by the restaurant, where many of the children were playing. I kept a close eye on my daughter and her friend. I love them both and I was responsible for them. So at that point, they were the most important thing to me. But as I looked around that wasn't the case with most of the parents on that patio. They wanted to talk their spouse, friend, or family member...they were not at all concerned that it was getting dark. Just remember... YOUR CHILDREN ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT THING. Pay attention to what they are doing. Let's work together for our children's future. If we are all putting our children first, and providing tough love with a lot of TLC, they will be better adults and their future will be so much brighter.

I hope I got you thinking..... :-)

My Story

It has been such a blessing to work from home. Boy was I wrong! I had to learn to balance my life. The only problem with that is....how do I do that? Here is the thing....when you add something to your life that has never been there, you have to make room for it. SACRIFICE something! Turn off the TV and make room for something that will change your life. Be ready for that period of imbalance while you are going through a change. This will help you achieve balance in the long term. I have been able to do so right from the comfort of my home and have helped and continue to help so many other families to do the same.

Here are some key success factors that my mentor, Donna Stewart, shared with me and I think they are so important.

If the company you are currently representing or the company you're considering meets all of these Success Factors, I'd love to know what company it is. The only one I've found so far is the one I represent..:)

1. Company track record - How long has the company you're considering representing been in business? What are the company's annual sales each year since in business? Does the company print average income statistics for business builders? It should and you should ask for them. Proof of long term sales, success and growth is critical with choosing any business.

2. Financially sound - Does the company have outstanding debt? Joining a company that is debt free is something I highly recommend to lessen any risk to you.

3. Strong management team - What are the backgrounds and credentials of the management team? You want to join a company that is run with integrity and strong leadership.

4. Unique consumable products - Are the products of the company, products that people actually need, use, run out of and repurchase month after month. Do the products have any trademarks or patents allowing for exclusive rights meaning no other company can copy them. If the products are not consumable, meaning something that a person would only buy once, then that is a business that will not be viable long term. If the products are consumable, however not necessarily a need, that will lesson your chance for long term success. Products needed, and consumed monthly makes for a solid business model.

5. Wide market appeal - Are the products something everyone needs and uses? If the products are specific for a certain gender, age group or body size for example, you lessen your market as it is not something for everyone.

6. Competitive prices - Are the products comparable in price or less expensive than the competition? If they are too expensive this is not a business that will produce great results.

7. High customer reorder rate - Does the company share it's reorder rate? Meaning how many customers that purchased from the company last month, reorder again the following month? If the re-order rate is low, the business will not be viable as new customers simply replace your old customers producing no real growth or a secure, residual income.

8. Low initial investment - If the cost to join or start is too high it makes for more risk and difficulty in attracting customers and business partners.

9. Low monthly requirement - If there is a high monthly requirement, customers/business builders may end up with an inventory or products they do not need. If there is a low monthly product requirement, then customers are getting what they need for personal use each month, and from a business standpoint you know customers are purchasing each month which creates the security and true residual income.

10. Rewards for leadership development - Does the company reward you for helping others in your business succeed? If there is any way the company could remove business builders from your business because of their success, be very careful about joining. There should never be potential for you to lose great partners.

11. Risk-free - Is everything 100% guaranteed? If not, I would advise against joining?

12. Anyone can be successful - Is the business plan set up for anyone to be successful at any time? If it's a company that says "Ground floor" opportunity, or "Get in Now", be very wary.
